River House

River House will be the future residential community of a group of ladies and gentlemen of increasing age who wish to retire to a beautiful residence with a vibrant garden, spacious pool and community/activity center. Located in Panajachel, Guatemala, it is surrounded by spectacular mountain, one of the most beautiful lakes on earth and offers the continuous and ever changing sounds of the nearby San Francisco river. River House is located near the bottom of the attached photo to the right, just upstream of the bridge, and along the eastern bank of the Rio San Francisco.

Panajachel is quite a special place. The weather is gorgeous. Sunny from December thru April, tropical afternoon thundershowers from May thru November. The average year round daytime temperature ranges from 68ºF to 75ºF, and at night it drops into the low to mid 50's from November thru February, and the mid 60's in the warmer months. The local folks are wonderful, warm and congenial. They produce many handicrafts from painting to carving, and their specialty, weaving. The lake (Lake Atitlan) is about 12 miles wide, 7 miles across, and averages 950 ft. deep with a year round temperature of 68ºF. The town is about 40 miles as the crow flies from Guatemala City (80 miles driving), and an interesting 2 1/2 hour drive. Flights from the states usually arrive mid day or in the early evening. There are shuttle busses or private shuttles from the airport to Panajachel. There is also a helicopter service available from around the lake to the city.
